Land Survey Crew Chief

3 Rocks Engineering and Surveying is a leading firm in the field of land surveying and engineering, committed to delivering high-quality services to our clients. Our team is dedicated to excellence, innovation, and professional growth. We are currently seeking a creative, skilled, and experienced Survey Crew Chief to join our dynamic team. Preferably, the successful applicant will have Crew Chief experience but we are willing to consider someone with Land Surveying experience that wants to evolve into the role.
POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Survey Crew Chief at 3 Rocks Engineering and Surveying, you will play a crucial role in performing survey fieldwork and managing and mentoring survey technicians. You will be responsible for leading survey projects in the field, ensuring accurate data collection, and maintaining high standards of precision and efficiency. Some overtime will be available at times, but it is not required or expected. Occasional overnight may be needed but it will be mostly local work in southern Colorado.  3 Rocks prides itself in creating an atmosphere that accommodates work-life balance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and manage survey crews in the field, ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards.

  • Conduct boundary, cadastral, topographic design surveys, and occasional construction staking using advanced surveying equipment and techniques.

  • Operate and maintain survey instruments such as total stations, GPS equipment, and data collectors.

  • Perform calculations, analysis, and documentation of survey data to produce accurate and reliable deliverables.

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure seamless project execution.

  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior survey team members.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Survey Crew Chief or Survey Technician.

  • Proficiency in operating survey equipment, including total stations, GPS, levels, and data collectors.

  • Strong knowledge of land surveying principles, techniques, and methodologies.

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Quality and legible field notes.

  • Ability to work outside year round.

  • Valid driver's license.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)

  • CST Technician (preferred)

  • Land Survey Intern (LSI) (preferred)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • $22 - $35 an hour based on experience
